During his studies he became the first and only percussionist to win the college's annual concerto competition, performing Ney Rosauro's first Concerto for Marimba.〔 Dave first came into the spotlight in 2005 when he commissioned a new work for solo percussion and brass band from English composer Derek Bourgeois.
